Sometimes as home-based business owners, we complicate what is simple. I’ve listed a few phrases (three words each) that are critical to our success in working for ourselves from home. Adapt them all–or pick your favorite–either way we are condensing success to its most important ingredients.
- THIS IS WORK
I know–shocking–isn’t it–to make 100K in the career of network marketing–you actually have to work. In our defense, there are so many false promises out there and so much hype that we are often brainwashed into believing that this business will magically build itself if we make a few dials each day and "hang in there". As we know–this is not a lottery ticket, money does not fall from the sky if you work in the networking industry–so I shouldn’t be saying this but I will anyway–this is not a job but some of us actually have to pretend it’s a job in order to give the commitment needed to have some success. We would be fired if we showed up 15 minutes late for work for a straight week yet sometimes we think that we can work for 90 minutes instead of 3 hours and give one presentation a day–and be instant success stories……so know that THIS IS WORK and then it actually starts to seem easy compared to a job….

ATTITUDE TRUMPS ABILITY–and I’m not talking about sugar sweet pollyanna nothing is wrong thinking–I’m not asking for that–I’m talking about a football player who gets hit and blocked moving toward the end zone but finds a way to keep going…..that is the attitude of success and that will get the job done every time….

TELL A STORY–facts tell and stories sell–people mostly don’t remember facts and figures and those are presented perfectly on our websites anyway so don’t stress about that info–instead memorize or make a cheat sheet of all the stories in your company and with your team–be a story collector so that almost everyone you talk to–you can pull a story out of your hat that is similar to theirs……and that is the best way to connect with prospective business partners instantly.

NO MORE NEWS–guys–don’t watch CNN 4 hours a day–bring it down to 15 minutes–they have actually treated people for depression who watch too much news….our subconscious mind controls between 80 to 90 per cent of the brain and it absorbs all of that negative energy on a much deeper level than we realize….and prospects can sense this….even when you don’t think you are conveying that…..what you feed grows–so if you hear and are exposed to positive thoughts and words and visions most of the time–then that is what you will sow…because that is what you’ve reaped both consciously and subconsciously.

YOU CALL ME…..now I think we can all guess what that refers to…yes….your team…and keep in mind that this does not come from a place of arrogance or lack of desire to serve–it’s just that we can only serve and help those who want that….for example, let’s say you were in a restaurant for vegetarians and you went in asking every guest if he/she wanted a free steak–you would get nowhere–they don’t want the steak….same thing with this business–not every team member we enroll wants the teaching or coaching or training that we can offer–so unless they come to us for it we can’t worry about it–one of my mentors always says we are responsible TO our team members not FOR our team members–that means we give a prompt return call to team members that call, that we promptly email them the answer to their questions–and email them the daily company and team info–and that most importantly we connect and direct–we connect with them when they reach out to us and we direct them to the right call or training site–:) and/or offer encouragement or congratulations to them. When a new team member starts with us, teach your new team members who start that "YOU CALL ME" when you need help, encouragement, advice etc. once a day or once a month–but every team member is diff so we can’t sit around each day thinking that we are going to call each team member…that’s just not productive or helpful to anyone involved as everyone needs different kinds of help at different times……

ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE….that speaks for itself but even though we think we know it, in secret we all say the phrase in our heads and add a little something extra to it….for example I often say to myself…anything is possible for anyone except me…….we have to know this and train our minds to think it correctly–so say it all the time to yourself–so you can train your mind to think this way…..your next dial could be a tremendous new business partner and colleague—so our part of the equation is not to merely hope but to DO the work by getting the info out there WHILE knowing that anything is possible therefore success is coming to us as long as we keep going….I love the quote by the late Jim Rohn–"you can’t create success, you have to attract it" and we attract it with a high belief level coupled by consistent action and work.

GIVE IT AWAY–in the book YOUR FIRST YEAR IN NETWORK marketing–they talk about GIVE IT AWAY–and I found this info so so very interesting…ok let’s say you interviewed the top producers in your company–and you asked them "how did you do it?" they would say "I was consistent, didn’t give up, and really my team did it" and then if you went to the NSD’s in their organizations you would get a similar response because this business isn’t something you "do" it’s something you "give" and if we can get ourselves thinking that way–our success will be easier and faster–this is part of my mentor’s success–she knows that each person she shares the info with has the opportunity for the gift of financial and time freedom–so she presents with the idea of "giving" it away instead "getting a sign up." A huge opposite from sales which is why sales people and former sales people like me have so many struggles oftentimes as we learn this business–it’s a change from trying to "get them" to "giving to them."

KEEP IT REAL–this is simple but bears mentioning–don’t tell crazy stories and make empty pie in the sky promises to prospects–if you don’t they will trust you as you will be doing the opposite of many of the goofballs that they have spoken to in other businesses and with other companies–don’t say that you can get to 100K in a year–can it done–yes but that’s not the norm–so don’t over promise and under deliver. Tell people the truth–the main reason that I was so impressed with the person who introduced me to our great industry of networking is that when she and I first spoke–she was so real and honest with no hype–she said, at first, her goal was to make 500 a month extra and once she hit that she set it for 1000 and once she hit that she increased it–that was real to me at the time–you don’t have to name numbers if you don’t want but use phrases like "at first our goal is to train and learn, make some money, cover your overhead and work on getting you to 500 a month in your first 2 to 6 months…adapt it to your style but you get the point–this industry is not about hype because we have the real stories and the real success.

DON’T GIVE UP–believe it or not…most of the top producers in this industry–have enrollers who left the business. You don’t have to be rah rah rah every second of the day about your business–that’s not realistic……but you have to keep going…that’s the commitment you have to make to yourself and to your family so that you can get the job done with your home-based business for the long run…we always say this is a marathon not a sprint–so think that way. We have to think long term–we give up and get frustrated or get frustrated and give up–yet it’s only the act of breaking through those tough times that gives you the ability to handle the bigger success that’s coming your way–you wouldn’t give a 17 year old who just got his driver’s license a 200K Maserati on the first day he or she was driving…..that’s why we don’t make 100K the first 3 months in our business–because we don’t have the skill to handle that type of organization when we first start–similarly we need to use each challenges as resistance training–just like you lift weights to tone your muscles…you face these challenges with your business in order to tone your ability and success muscles.
